  1. Babe broke the career home run record by his eight season. Of course the record was only 138 when Babe broke Roger Connor's record.

    I don't know if you're knocking Aaron but if you get a chance, look at Aarons career totals at baseball-reference. He wasn't just one of the most consistent hitters in the history of the game (his stats are mindboggling), but if you took away every single home run he hit in his career, he would STILL have over 3000 hits careerwise.

    PS. Gene's points here are dead on too (except Ruth did play Sunday games).


  2. Irrelevant. It took him about 4,000 more at bats, but not only was the era quite different, Aaron also had Sunday games, flight schedules, night games, and racism to deal with. No doubt that the Babe was the great player he is known as and all-round better than Aaron, but Aaron had no peers and his consistency was a thing to behold. I know a lot of people who think Willie Mays was better, but the lifetime records show otherwise.
