Hank Haney defends revelations about Tiger Woods’ personal life in his upcoming book “The Big Miss”
The day Hank Haney, Tiger Woods’ former swing coach, decided to write a book on his former pupil, the sports critics are on a rampage justifying and denouncing the attempt both at the same time.
Many have considered Haney’s attempt a blow “below the belt” and have called it unprofessional and unethical.
Many, at the same time, have justified Haney’s attempt, calling it a much-needed insight into the life of the reclusive Woods.
Haney, who insisted earlier in the year that the book will not include any personal details of his former pupil and will only be concerned with the sport, have now admitted that he has written things about Wood’s personal life and the infamous philandering of the former world number one.
Haney writes, "I wanted to write the book about my observations of greatness, an athlete superior to his competition, obviously, people will have their thoughts. But when people read the book in its entirety ... if Tiger read the book, in his heart, he'd have to say it's an accurate portrayal, and it's honest”.
There is little doubt that the revelations from the book will have negative fallout on Woods’ performance in the event.
Haney and Woods spent six years as the swing coach of the former world number one and guided him to lift six major titles during the course of their partnership.
In all, Woods won several events on both sides of the Atlantic under the guidance of Haney who introduced a slight change in the swing of his trailblazing pupil.
Haney also writes that Woods suffered injuries to his left knee, primarily because of his obsession with the heavy workouts.
His knee went through four reconstructive surgeries and the doctors have already warned that the damaged ligament in the knee was only 20 percent intact.
Haney said Wood’s fear of sustaining further damage, was the main cause of his fear from the driver.
He added, “Simply put, Tiger played the driver with a lot of fear”.
Woods is hoping to break his winless streak in the rest of the current season and despite several strong finishes both in Middle East and on PGA Tour this year, he is still without a victory for the last more than two years.
