Hank Haney insists Tiger Woods need to concentrate on short game after his colossal fall in the Players Championship
Tiger Woods’ former coach Hank Haney may not be in the best of terms with the former world number one, he rarely misses a chance to comment on his former pupil regarding his performance.
Woods’ fall in the Players Championship after his colossal fall in the Masters spurred Haney to comment on Wood’s lacunae in various aspects of the game, apparently picking on his current swing coach Sean Foley.
Haney particularly targeted Woods’ short game and said that the player needs to concentrate on his putting more than his swing for the moment.
He said, "His putting isn’t as good as it used to be, and it’s been that way for a while now. He’s not as good with wedges. From 50 to 125 yards, he’s I think ranked 150 on the Tour or somewhere in that range”.
Haney and Woods hit a sour note in their relationship when the former decided to write a book on Woods’ personal life and the time he spent with the 14-major-winner.
Haney and Woods remained associated for a time span of six long years where Woods went on to win six major titles other than his regular victories all over the world.
Haney further added, “It looks like he’s having a great spurt when he hits the ball good at times, and then he struggles at times”.
Haney released his infamous book, “The Big Miss” ahead of this year’s Masters, targeting Woods personal life and his relationship with the former world number one.
Haney has also been constantly criticising Foley’s repeated attempts to reinvent Woods’ swing and has warned several times of dire repercussions of the reckless decision.
Speaking about the technical aspects of Woods’ misses, Haney said that the player has done well as far as the swing is concerned.
He added, "He has a miss that goes both ways. When I helped him, most of his misses went to the right, now they’re going right and left, it’s about 50/50”.
Woods finished for his career low of joint 40th at TPC Sawgrass and also a joint 40th in the Masters, his lowest finish of the career on both occasions.
