Hank Haney releases another excerpt from ‘The Big Miss’ – Golf News
Another excerpt from Hank Haney’s book, The Big Miss, has grabbed the readers' attention, as it talks about Haney’s fear of asking Tiger Woods for a Popsicle.
Haney worked as a swing coach for Woods from 2004 to 2010 and recently wrote a book about his experiences as a coach with his employer.
The book will be officially available to the public on March 27, 2012, a week before the Masters Tournament starts at the Augusta National.
Haney says about Woods in the excerpt that sometimes Woods used to go to the refrigerator while they were watching television at night to get a sugar-free Popsicle.
However, Woods, according to Haney, never asked him to get one too.
A night came when Haney really wanted to have one when he saw Woods taking it. Yet, he kept silent for a while because of his hesitation to ask Woods for it.
A few minutes later, he summoned his courage and asked his employer: “Hey, Bud, do you think I could have one of those popsicles?”
Woods replied to it positively and gave it to him after taking it from the refrigerator.
Haney has talked about different aspects of Woods life during his period as a coach for him. Mainly, in the excerpts that were launched in the New York Times, he talks about his distractions from the game that led to poor performance in the end.
One of them included the continuous ringing of his cell phone that was later revealed as the texts and calls from different women.
He had affairs with them, which became the major reason for the dissolution of his marriage in 2009.
Haney talked about Woods' early relations with Elin Nordegren, his ex-wife, and how concerned Woods was for her.
He wrote that Woods really liked Nordegren and used to tell her some raunchy jokes, which she never seemed to mind. “But as life became more complicated, I thought Elin changed,” Haney wrote. “By the time she and Tiger married, she remained friendly but
had become more guarded, even in her own home”.
He added, “She and Tiger developed a calm, almost cool relationship in front of other people, and conversations with them tended to be awkward and strained. I never saw them argue, but they weren’t openly affectionate either”.
Furthermore, he talked about how it all became public and Nordegren decided to ask for the divorce.
Overall, Haney has talked about several aspects of Woods' life, which the former world number one criticised as a self-serving and unprofessional behaviour in one of his interviews.
