Hank Haney sheds light on Tiger Woods’ penchant for the US Navy Seals
Secrets from the personal life of former world number one Tiger Woods have started to make headlines ahead of the release of “The Big Miss”, a book written by his former coach and close aid Hank Haney.
Haney, remained with Woods for a considerable period helping him bag no fewer than 31 professional titles, including six majors.
Haney helped Woods adopt a flatter swing on the wrist as compared to his former coach Butch Harmon, helping him immensely with his career in the sport.
The duo parted ways when Woods’ life plunged into abyss of extramarital affairs and subsequent financial vows.
Haney has now revealed that the former number one believes in rigorous physical exercises, something often considered unchartered territory for golfers.
He also said that Woods, at one time, even contemplated joining the Navy Seals of the US Army, a combat group which requires extreme physical fitness.
Haney writes, "I didn't know how he'd go about it, but when he talked about it, it was clear he had a plan, I thought, wow, here is Tiger Woods, greatest athlete on the planet, maybe the greatest athlete ever, right in the middle of his prime, basically ready to leave it all behind for a military life".
Haney also stated that Woods’ drew his penchant for the Military from his late father Earl Woods, who was a Green Beret himself.
He would often go out for long runs in Military boots, severely jeopardizing his knee condition.
The book is set to hit the stores right ahead of the coveted Masters at Augusta National this year and is already been touted as the much-awaited book of the year.
The timing of the release has been of particular concern for the struggling Woods who is trying to make a turn in his dilapidating form and fitness.
He has performed well at the closing end of the last year and has started off the current year on a strong note.
For the moment, Woods’ trusted agent Mark Steinberg is countering the fall out of the excerpts. He regarded Haney’s accusation of Woods’ liking for the Military as a mere figment of imagination.
Steinberg remarked, "Based on the excerpts published today, Hank Haney's claim that his book is about golf is clearly false. His armchair psychology about Tiger, on matters he admits they didn't even discuss, is ridiculous".
Woods has also severely criticised Haney’s decision to write a book over his interactions during their association and has regarded it as highly unprofessional.
Steinberg also said that Woods have always held his father and the military in high regards but drawing any conclusions based on that respect is ridiculous.
Steinberg also said that it is more than evident that Haney’s self promotion is the only important thing for him and his revelations are a breach of trust between a player and his coach, someone who was once a close friend.
