The Borussia Monchengladbach striker has admitted that the team will need some time to recover after the departures of key players this summer.
The Foals finished in fourth place last season and surprised many when they qualified for the UEFA Champions League playoffs. The team was fighting to stay in the first division in the previous season which made the achievement
even more impressive.
However, some of the club’s key players left to pursue their career in another club which included the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Reus-c23733. All three players were influential in the club’s success last term and their
departure was a huge blow for the side.
Lucien Favre replaced the trio with some talented young players such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luuk-de-Jong-c22956 but the new additions will surely take their time to settle in.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mike-Hanke-c25699 believes that his side will need time to find the right mix this season. He admitted that the loss at home to Dynamo Kiev in the first-leg of the Champions League playoff game was disappointing, but is optimistic of
a recovery in the second fixture.
The striker blamed the loss on the exit of players earlier in the summer, but has refused to use it as an excuse for poor performances.
“They'd played a few more competitive games, including against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 in the last round, and we lost some important players over the summer – Dante, Roman [Neustadter] and Marco [Reus],” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The attacker is confident of a great future ahead and insisted that the team can surely excel with the squad it has. He stressed that the players need to believe in themselves to find success.
“To compensate for those losses is very difficult. We can do it, we just need time, but that is what we don't have so we have to make sure that we try everything in attack and score three goals there. They say that in football
anything is possible, so I just believe in that – that we can still make it,” he concluded.
Borussia Monchengladbach will take on Dynamo Kiev at the Olimpiysky National Sports Complex on Wednesday, August 29.
