Hanley Ramirez shines as Florida Marlins rout Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 – MLB Update
Florida Marlins’ short-stop Hanley Ramirez had a notable day with the bat as he scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning as the Florida Marlins defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-2 at the Sun Life Stadium in Florida on April 26.
Ramirez said of his performance, “It's better. Still, I'm not feeling 100 percent at the plate. I have to keep working to get 100 percent, get my timing right, and start to the drive the ball-doubles, triples, and homers.”
Ramirez had a poor season with the bat as he had three runs on 28 hits but later he adjusted his batting posture and increased his hitting average to .211 after delivering a game winning effort. He swung his bat all around the ground and led the Marlins
over the Dodgers. The Marlins improved their Win-Loss record to 15-7 after winning 22 straight games.
Gaby Sanchez tied the game with 2-2 by hitting a solo homer for the Marlins and Mike Stanton made two runs to extend the lead. Stanton expressed his excitement as, “It's great. You never know who is going to take care of business that night. We don't have
to rely one person's shoulders.”
The Marlins’ starter Chris Volstad pitched extremely well as he allowed just two runs on seven hits including two earned runs and struck out five batters in seven inning pitches. Volstad had an ERA of 6.60 in the current season.
Clay Hensley and Randy Choate both pitched eighth inning jointly and did not permit a run. Leo Nunez also threw better at the end of the game as he pitched the ninth inning for his seventh save of the season and had two strike-outs.
On the other side, the Dodgers’ batters did not perform up to their levels. Aaron Miles initiated the Dodgers scorecard by hitting a single with four at-bats. James Loney had four hits but did not add to the score.
Speaking to reporters, the Dodgers’ Manager Don Mattingly said, “You look at us right now -- we have three guys who started the season as utility players. We have to try to scratch and get our runs here and there.... I think we're going to be OK offensively.”
The Dodgers’ starter Clayton Kershaw was also scratchy will the ball as he gave away four runs on six hits in 5 inning pitches.
