Hanna is a category one hurricane now?

I'm thinking people will have to start focusing more on Hanna soon because of what she's up to. Based on the projected path, people in the lower East Coast might want to consider evacuation if Hanna becomes very powerful.

  1. Yes, it was announced on the Weather Channel just minutes ago, Hanna is a Category 1 Hurricane. The projected path the Weather Channel gave was that it is going to go up the east coast, hitting the coasts of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia. It is supposed to then move inland.

  2. According to weather.com, Hanna is not a category one yet, and may never achieve that status. Wind gust do not indicate hurricane strength, sustained wind speeds do.

  3. Yes, with wind speeds of 75 mph with gusts to 90 mph, Hurricane Hanna is a Category 1 Hurricane.

  4. The latest discussion from NOAA shows that Hanna could very well develope.  And there is also Tropical depression 9 a little further out.  As this developes it could well nudge Hanna nearer the eastern seaboard.  There are a further 3 weather systems in the Atlantic at this time that are on the graphs.
