Hannah Miley: Britain’s 400m Individual Medley specialist
Hannah Miley, Born on August 8, 1989, is Britain’s multi-stroke specialist who qualified as a finalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2009 World Championships. Miley specialises in the individual medley and breast-stroke events.
Miley was born in Swindon and she coached under Patrick Miley to enter the domestic world of swimming in 2005 at Britain’s National Championships, where she earned a bronze medal in the 400m individual medley with a time of 4:51.21 minutes. After a few months
at European Junior Championships, she won a silver medal in the same event with a timing of 4:47.47 minutes and at the European Short Course Championships, she finished sixth in a time of 4:37.12 minutes.
Then in 2006, Miley first competed at Bri Championships, where she participated in seven events at the championship but earned a gold medal in her main event, the 400m individual medley only. She won the gold medal in a time of 4:46.55 minutes and finished
fifth in 200m individual medley in 2:18.98 minutes, 10th in the 200m butterfly and 100m freestyle in 2:20.56 minutes and 1:06.17 respectively, seventh in 800m freestyle in 8:58.58 minutes and ninth in the 400m freestyle in 4:22.21 minutes.
Her gold in the championship made her way through to the 2006 Commonwealth Games, where she finished fourth in the 400m individual medley in a time of 4:47.95 minutes, a time 0.48 seconds above her silver medal at the 2005 Junior Championships. She also
came seventh in the 200m individual medley in 2:17.83 minutes. Then at the 2006 European Championships, Miley finished the 400m individual medley in the seventh place with a time of 4:47.51 minutes.
Miley did not participate in any event in 2007 but in 2008, she participated in the National Swimming Championships and won gold medals in the 200m individual medley in an improved timing of 2:11.46 minutes and in the 400m individual medley in a time of
4:37.41 minutes, respectively.
She then added another event to her participation list at the ASA Championships, where she participated in the 200m and 400m individual medley and the 200m freestyle. She won gold medals in the 200m and 400m individual medley with a timing of 2:14.77 minutes
and 4:42.84 minutes respectively, whereas, she finished fifth in the 200m freestyle in 2:01.25 minutes.
Miley’s gold medals in the championship qualified her to participate in European Championships, where she raced in the 200m and 400m individual medley and finished fourth in both races in 2:08.31 minutes and 4:27.33 minutes, respectively. After a few months,
Miley represented Britain at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where she finished 11th in the 200m individual medley in a time of 2:12.35 minutes and sixth in the 400m individual medley in a time of 4:39.44 minutes.
She was also a part of Britain’s 4*200m freestyle relay team that finished ninth in 7:56.16 minutes. She won a silver medal in the 400m individual medley in 4:27.27 minutes and a bronze medal in the 200m IM in 2:08.79 minutes at the 2008 World Championships.
Then, at the 2009 Swimming Nationals, Miley won three gold medals in 200m breast-stroke, 200m individual medley and 400m individual medley meets. She also won a silver medal in the 200m butterfly in 2:08.24 minutes and finished fourth in the 200m freestyle
in 1:59.42 minutes.
The same year at European Championships, she for the first time won a gold medal in 400m IM in 4:25.66 minutes and a bronze medal in the 200m IM with a time of 2:06.96 minutes.
Then, at the 2010 National Swimming Championships, Miley smashed two gold medals in her main events and a silver medal in the 200m breast-stroke meet. Then, at the European Championships, she won a gold medal in 400m individual medley in 4:33.09 minutes
and two bronze medals in 2:10.89 minutes and 4*200m freestyle relay in 7:55.29 minutes. The same year, she again won a gold medal in the 400m individual medley in 4:38.83 minutes at Commonwealth Games.
Now in 2011, at the British Gas Swimming Championships, Miley won a gold medal in 200m individual medley with a time of 2:12.01 minutes, which led to her qualification for the 2011 Shanghai World Championships, in July.
