Hannah Miley and Suzuki nab Women’s 200m IM and breast-stroke titles: Mare Nostrum, Monte Carlo 2011
After the scintillating performances of Ryosuke Irie, Zueva, Alexander Dale Oen and Yannick Agnel in their respective events, the European champion of Great Britain, Hannah Miley took home the Women’s 200m Individual Medley crown with a record time of 2
minutes and 12.69 seconds at the 2011 Mare Nostrum in Monte Carlo, Monaco, on June 12.
Earlier, she set a record in the respective race with a sterling time of 2 minutes and 12.01 seconds, this year. Placed second in the neck and neck battle in the Women’s 200m Individual Medley was Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe with a winning time of 2 minutes
and 12.91 seconds. Her fastest time of the year in the corresponding meet is 2 minute and 11.36 seconds.
Meanwhile, Bianca Meyer rounded out the top three swimmers in the respective meet after touching the finishing wall and ending her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 20.50 seconds.
The clash between both swimmers, Hannah Miley and Kirsty Coventry was very intriguing, but it was the immaculate speed and versatile moves of the British swimmer that helped her to beat the Zimbabwean swimmer with a fringe margin of 0.22 seconds in the 200m
IM meet. Miley was jubilant with her individual performance in the following event.
In the meantime, the Women’s 200m breast-stroke event was secured by Hiroshi Suzuki, who nabbed the golden crown with a fabulous time of 2 minutes and 26.67 seconds. Placed second in the corresponding race was Emily Selig with a sterling time of 2 minutes
and 27.99 seconds, while Caroline Ruhnau earned third place honours with a time of 2 minutes and 29.55 seconds.
Last, but not the least, the Women’s 100m freestyle crown was taken over by Muffat with a fastest time of 55.05 seconds. Placed second in the respective race was Charlotte Bonnet with a time of 55.50 seconds, while Elena Sokolova rounded out the top three
in 55.73 seconds. Again, it was a close match between Muffat and Bonnet, but the French swimmer won the battle due her impeccable speed and stamina.
