Hannah Miley conquers Women’s 400m IM heats - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Hannah Miley of Great Britain conquered the preliminary rounds of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on first day of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday, December 12.
The British swimmer devastated hopes of her opponents in the qualification round of the race as she paved her way into the playoff as top fastest swimmer.
Miley remained prominently ahead of her challengers from the start and proved her eligibility for the top position by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 28.91 seconds.
Miley was followed by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who stayed 0.31 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and concluded her race in second place by producing a time of 4 minutes and 29.22 seconds.
Hosszu was followed by Ye Shiwen of China, who was 0.76 seconds apart and completed her swim in third best place by touching the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 29.98 seconds.
Shiwen remained 0.90 seconds ahead of Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who occupied fourth fastest spot of the event as she concluded her race in a time of 4 minutes and 30.88 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the discipline was obtained by Miho Takahashi of Japan, who was full body length behind and reached the finishing wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 31.71 seconds.
Takahashi was chased by Emu Higuchi of Japan, who was nearly 0.75 seconds behind and proved her eligibility for sixth place by producing a time of 4 minutes and 32.49 seconds.
Seventh position of the discipline was obtained by Madeline Dirado of USA, who was half a body length slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 33.01 seconds.
Dirado was followed by Barbora Zavadova of Czech Republic, who was 1.66 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 34.67 seconds.
Furthermore, Miley was happy with her fastest qualification effort and stressed that she would try her level best to accomplish the same in the final round.
