Hannah Miley grabs Women’s 400m IM gold - FINA Swimming Championships (25m)
Hannah Miley of Great Britain grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on day one of the 2012 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) at Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday, December 12.
The British swimmer stunned the aquatic crowd with her exceptional pace in the race, as she not only occupied the title but also lowered the championship record of the event.
With her impeccable pace, Miley enjoyed a marginal lead over her closest challenger and surfaced on the finishing end for gold medal by producing a time of 4 minutes and 23.14 seconds.
The champion was followed by Ye Shiwen of China, who stayed 0.19 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall for silver medal by reporting an effort of 4 minutes and 23.33 seconds.
The second position holder was traced by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who suffered a loss of one and a half body length from her foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 4 minutes and 25.95 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth position of the discipline was obtained by Hosszu’s compatriot, Zsuzsanna Jakabos, who stayed 1.04 seconds slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 4 minutes and 26.99 seconds.
Jakabos was chased by Madeline Dirado of USA, who stayed 1.56 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and concluded her race in fifth place by touching the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 28.55 seconds.
Sixth spot of the event was obtained by Mio Takahashi of Japan, who stayed three seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 31.55 seconds.
Subsequently, Takahashi was followed by Emu Higuchi of Japan, who stayed considerably slower from her and settled on the wall as seventh fastest swimmer with a timing of 4 minutes and 35.39 seconds.
Last spot of the distant IM discipline was obtained by Barbora Zavadova of Czech Republic, who stayed almost 1.80 seconds slower and posted a time of 4 minutes and 37.30 seconds.
Furthermore, Miley received a huge round of applause from the audience for her notable efforts and raked medal after the session.
