Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark of Great Britain hit 2012 470 World Championship title
Hard work finally paid off for Great Britain’s Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark as they cruised into the leading podium place of 2012 470 World Championships and they were able to claim the championship title with 65 points after sailing in 13 races, including
one discarded race.
The British sailors had a slow start and were place in lower podium finishes in the early days of the regatta. However, they sprang back with some impressive sailing skills and immediately clinched the leading podiums in the middle of the regatta. A couple
of bullets in the last two days played a crucial part in their overall success.
The weather conditions throughout the regatta were shifty as the winds fluctuated during the event proceedings. Even the fleet had to postpone their racing due to light weather but still they managed to complete the scheduled races on time.
Mills and Clark were on lower podiums in the opening races. The lower finish they had was a 21st finish in the 11th race which was finally discarded from the overall result and did not affect their position.
France’s Camille Lecointre and Mathilde Geron, who were on the top podium place in the beginning, finished the event on second place with just two-point difference at 67 points. They breezed into two first finishes in their campaign which seemed enough for
them to make it to the second podium.
