Hannes Heyl grabs Men’s 50m butterfly gold: Day five – German Olympic Trials
Hannes Heyl of SSG Leipzig grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 50m butterfly playoff on day five of the 2012 German Olympic Trials in Berlin on May 14.
Heyl demonstrated his stupendous efforts in the single lap butterfly event and proved his mettle for the crown of the event. He faced furious efforts of Hamburger SC’s Steffen Deibler in the first half of the discipline but managed to outperform him over
the finishing end for gold medal.
With his astonishing efforts, he paved his way to the wall for gold medal by posting a time of 23.94 seconds. His notable effort remained 0.02 seconds faster from Deibler, who stepped on the medal rostrum for second position by touching the wall with the
timing of 23.96 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Stefan Herbst of SSG Leipzig, who remained 0.19 seconds slower from his former finisher and settled on the victory stand for bronze medal with the timing of 24.15 seconds.
Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Simon Hengel of SV Mannheim, who suffered a deficit of 0.38 seconds and produced a time of 24.53 seconds.
Hengel was chased by Jan Konopka of SG Essen, who was marginally slower from his former finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 24.57 seconds.
Sixth best spot of the race was secured by Johannes Dietrich of SC Wiesbaden 1911, who was just an inch slower from his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 24.58 seconds.
Dietrich was traced by Markus Gierke of W98 Hannover, who remained almost two strokes behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 24.84 seconds.
Following that, the crowd witnessed gruelling efforts of Philipp Forster of SC Wiesbaden 1911 and Alexander Crasmoller of SG Dortmund, who ended in a joint finish for eighth position with the timing of 24.88 seconds.
Tenth position of the event was obtained by Serghei Golban of SSG Leipzig, who clocked an effort of 24.97 seconds.
In addition, the crowd appreciated wonderful efforts of all participants while the position holders received medals at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
