Hannover stun Werder Bremen in five-goal thriller - Bundesliga recap
Werder Bremen were dealt their second loss of the Bundesliga campaign on Sunday, when they were stunned by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hannover-96-c39492 at Weserstadion. The two teams locked heads on October 2 with Bremen starting as favourites despite being away from home.
The Reds emerged as 3-2 winners on the night courtesy a hat-trick from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mohammed-Abdellaoue-c26469.
Hannover adapted a 4-4-2 formation with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ron-Robert-Zieler-c31761 guarded the net for the home side.
Werder Bremen also went in with the 4-4-2 formation. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sebastian-Mielitz-c32745 guided the net for the visitors.
The hosts made a bright start to the game and were awarded an early penalty in just the second minute. Abdellaoue duly converted it to give Hannover an early advantage. After that early goal, the flow of the game settled down, giving Bremen some necessary
time to find their feet. The visitors created a few half chances but were unable to stamp their authority at any point.
Hannover, on the other hand, kept on pressing forward in order to build upon their lead. Abdellaoue, on the 38th minute mark, slammed in his and the team’s second goal of the evening to make it 2-0 for the proud hosts.
The River Islanders did not lose hope and tried their best to pull one back before half time. Arnautovic eventually found the net for the visitors’ right on the stroke of half time to make it 2-1 at the end of the first half.
Bremen were more attacking in the second period and squandered a clear cut opportunity to equalise right at the start. Arnautovic failed to meet a cross from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marko-Marin-c24198 right in the centre, which could surely have made it 2-2. The goalkeeper, Zieler, was
left a mere spectator and was extremely lucky to not have conceded.
Abdellaoue, on the other hand, continued his supreme form with his third goal of the evening on the 60th minute mark. The game was certainly not over from Bremen’s point of view, who dominated the remaining 30 minutes of the match.
The home side, for the first time in the game, were forced onto the back foot but the defence stood firm when it mattered the most.
The River Islanders were reduced to 10 men in the closing stages when Arnautovic received his marching orders. Right after his departure, Pizarro made it 3-2 in the 83rd minute, giving his side a life line with just seven minutes on the clock
remaining.
No team could find the goal again as the Reds completed an unlikely win against an inform Bremen outfit.
With this win, Hannover, are now fifth on the league table with 15 points from eight games. Werder Bremen, on the other hand, are still on the second spot with 16 points, level on points with third placed Borussia Monchengladbach.
Hannover will next be in action against FC Koln on Sunday, October 16, while Bremen will host Borussia Dortmund on Friday, October 14.
