Hanoi to saigon train??

hi

we are flying to hanoi and want to travel by train to saigon. any ideas how long this takes, and if we can hop on and off the train or not? also any good beaches on the way? thanks!!

i actually did the same kind of thing

we got a little help with our train tickets, and made a few stops along the way, at hue, nha trang and hoi an.

the train trips are quiet long, so i would stack up on food along the way, because the food on board is rather dull.

personally i loved the beach at hoi an, and although i did like the beach at nha trang, i just found there were too many tourist boats around at the time.

It will definitely take long, 1->2 days I believe. I've never gone like that before but I took the air plane instead. However, you can stop in Hue, Nha Trang, Hoi An ...
