With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296 about to break the German legend’s one-year goal-scoring record, Muller’s former team-mate has taken out time to compare the Argentine with his counterpart.
The former Gerd Muller team-mate, Hans-Georg, recently compared the Argentinean maestro, Lionel Messi, with the record holder, Gerd Muller.
Lionel Messi is about to reach the 85 goals in a year mark, a record set by the German legend, Gerd Muller.
The Argentinean skipper has already scored 82 goals and before the 31st of December, Messi has to score three more goals in order to reach the number of goals which Muller managed to reach in a single calendar year.
For obvious reasons, comparisons between Lionel Messi and Gerd Muller are now coming making way as many footballers, football fans and pundits believe that Lionel Messi either as great, or far better than the German star.
According to Gerd Muller, the former team-mate of Muller, Lionel Messi is also as special as the German legend.
Hans-Georg stated that he feels lucky that he never faced Muller during a game, as he was a complete striker and nothing would stop him from scoring goals. While speaking about the German, he said:
“I am grateful for having not ever had to face Muller beyond training. He was the complete striker.”
“Strong, powerful, he used both feet. He was an example in every way and was the insurance for Bayern to conquer everywhere.”
“I thought that to beat his record would be difficult, but I always thought that there is nothing in life that lasts forever and someone or something will appear and make you open your eyes back into reality.”
However, he also spoke about the Argentinean star and said that even though Messi is about to break the record, nothing is permanent.
“Muller, I believe, could have played on for a few more years, but Gerd was unique, as far as Messi is.”
“He is very good, to break the record of the past. That means that things are going well and that nothing is forever.”
Lionel Messi is going to face Athletic Bilbao over the weekend, and a hat-trick against the mid-table Spanish club would take his goal-scoring tally to 85 in the 2012 calendar year.
