Hans-Joachim Stuck blames Ross Brawn for Mercedes’ uncompetitive performance – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver and the president of the German Motorsport Federation, Hans-Joachim Stuck has blamed Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn for their uncompetitive performance in the last three seasons and has defended Norbert Haug.
Haug has recently stepped down as the head of Mercedes motorsport because the Silver Arrows failed to attain desired results in the last three seasons.
However, Stuck believes that the failure of the Brackley based team can only be attributed to Brawn, who being the team boss, is responsible for the development of the car.
Furthermore, he said that Mercedes struggled a lot in this season because they could not develop a competitive car as compared to their rivals and were even challenged by the midfielders towards the end of the season.
“The failures in F1 are only attributable to Brawn,” said the 61-year-old. “The car was just not fast enough.”
“McLaren has demonstrated it isn't the Mercedes engine. Even a small team like Force India has enjoyed success with the Mercedes-Benz engines,” he said.
In addition, he said that the departure of the German, who has played a great role in the success of Mercedes-Benz over the last 22 years, is surely a big loss for F1.
Besides, he completely dismissed all the rumours that Haug was responsible for Mercedes’ lack of pace and asserted that it was Brawn’s responsibility to come up with a better car.
“The departure of Haug is a huge loss for the sport,” he added. “He was not ultimately the one who designed the car.”
“The car is [the responsibility] of team boss Ross Brawn, he should have made it better,” he said.
Even though, Mercedes could not achieve their goal in this season despite having a successful pre-season testing programme. Nevertheless, they are not feeling upset and are positively looking forward to come up stronger in the next season so as to attain
good results.
Furthermore, it will be important to mention that their driver, Michael Schumacher has taken retirement from the sport and will be replaced by Lewis Hamilton in the next season. Let’s see how they show up with their changed driver line-up in the coming year.
