The Borussia Dortmund CEO has expressed his pleasure at the club’s current form as the Borussians look to retain their Bundesliga crown.
Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed that he is pleased with Borussia Dortmund’s progress and admitted that finishing second will not be a bad result. He stated that the Borussians are in decent form at the moment and their main aim
was to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
The CEO claimed that Dortmund’s title rivals, Bayern Munich, are still the favourites to win the title. He mentioned that it will not be easy to win every remaining game until the end of this season which could take the title race
down to the wire.
While talking to a local publication, Bild, the CEO further added:
“There were times when we were 20 to 30 points behind Bayern - it's something nice to feel the breath of a pursuer. Bear in mind: Bayern were and are the top favourites. We have only one-third of Bayern's budget."
Watzke insisted that Dortmund are in perfect shape at the moment despite playing a goalless draw against FC Augsburg last week. He opined that if his players continue performing in the same manner then the Black Yellows could even
retain their Bundesliga crown.
"Why should we get jitters? Our goal was to qualify for international competition again. That we will most likely qualify for the Champions League again only shows that the team has accomplished something remarkable,” Watzke added.
The CEO also went on to comment about Nuri Sahin’s move to Real Madrid last summer. He reckons that the midfielder made a false decision and must have stayed with the reigning German champions. Sahin has only made one league appearance
for Los Blancos and has spent most of the season on the bench.
If reports are to be believed, Sahin is tipped to reunite with the Borussians at the end of this season. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Turkey-c3026 international was also rumoured to rejoin the Westfalenstadion outfit during this year’s January transfer window.
Sahin spent almost a decade with Dortmund and made 135 senior team appearances, bagging 13 goals during the process.
