The Borussia Dortmund chairman has dismissed claims that the striker will be joining Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robert-Lewandowski-c31255 has been widely linked with a move to Bayern Munich at the end of the season. The player has been in sensational form for the reigning German champions, scoring 14 times already in the ongoing campaign.
Watzke claimed that it would certainly be an unwise decision on Lewandowski’s part to join the Bavarian giants as he would be warming the benches at Allianz Arena. The chairman insisted that Mario Gomez is a world-class striker
and replacing him to play in the first team would be a difficult task.
The chief stated that the Polish international is happy at Westfalenstadion and has no intentions to leave at the end of the season. He added that these are rumours and the club feels no need to justify them. He further added that
the club wants to keep all its key players for the future.
“If he seriously should have it in mind to go to Bayern and sit next to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arjen-Robben-c6521 on the bench, then I would have serious doubts about him. He is smart and knows that Mario Gomez is a world class striker; to play would be very
difficult,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Watzke also took a dig at Bayern supporters, claiming that Borussia Dortmund fans support their players through thick and thin whereas the Bavarian faithful are impatient. He was referring to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-c23383 Neuer’s transfer at the start
of the season when the fans performed protests as the goalkeeper was a Schalke player.
“He deserves so much more than he would have had at Bayern. He chose wisely. There is a difference over whether the 80,000 fans have the courage [to continue supporting a player] after the first misplaced pass - or whether they
moan,” he concluded.
Borussia Dortmund are leading the Bundesliga table with 49 points from the 22 games played thus far and have a three-point lead over Borussia Monchengladbach. The reigning German champions will next face http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hannover-96-c39492 at the Signal
Iduna Park on Sunday, February 26, in the Bundesliga.
