The Borussia Dortmund CEO has voiced his desire to beat the Bavarian giants and affirm grip on the Bundesliga crown.
Hans-Joachim Watzke has expressed his eagerness to beat Bayern Munich to further the advantage in the title race. He was talking ahead of the Dortmund-Bayern meeting on Wednesday, April 11, at the Signal Iduna Park. The CEO is
confident that the Borussians will be able to retain their crown once they beat the Reds.
The chairman mentioned that it would be a difficult game for both sides and the side that keeps its nerves will come out with three points. He urged his side against complacency and wants the team to try ensuring all the three
points in order to stabilise the remaining journey in the competition.
While talking to Spox, Watzke further added: "We will not let the Bundesliga title get away from us any more if we beat Bayern in the direct confrontation."
Watzke also commented on his team’s current form in the Bundesliga. He expressed his delight with the way things have gone thus far and wishes to end this season on a high. He mused that it would be an outstanding achievement to
keep the unbeaten run going for the remainder of this campaign.
The CEO claimed that the Black Yellows have already had an amazing spell in the Bundesliga compared to the last term. Dortmund currently have 66 points from 29 games as was also the case last season which gives a true account of
their consistency.
"We currently have 66 points, exactly as many as last year at this point. That alone is already a fantastic performance," Watzke concluded.
With five games remaining this season, both Bayern and Dortmund are already involved in an intense battle. Both teams can hardly afford to drop points at any stage of the competition which means that the midweek encounter is a
‘do-or-die’ game for the two title contenders.
Bayern are currently three points short of Dortmund and both these sides will also meet next month in the final of the German Cup on May 12.
