The Borussia Dortmund CEO has criticized the Spanish giants for the treatment of Nuri Sahin following the player's summer move to Santiago Bernabeu.
Hans-Joachim Watzke believes that former Borussia Dortmund midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nuri-Sahin-c28251, would have been better off if he had opted to stay instead of moving to the Spanish capital. He insisted that Jose Mourinho’s side has done nothing
for the player to make sure he gets accustomed to Spanish conditions.
Sahin joined Santiago Bernabeu last year in May for an estimated fee of 10 million Euros, but has unfortunately managed just one league appearance ever since. The midfielder has been constantly ignored by his manager, Jose Mourinho,
despite recovering from his long term injury.
Watzke added that Sahin was a star in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 as he has not played football regularly. The chief played down reports that the club is looking to re-sign the Turkish international
in the summer transfer window.
While talking to Der Westen, Watzke further mentioned:
"With us, ever player is fully integrated with his strengths and weaknesses. You can see in the example of Nuri Sahin what a player is capable of in the right environment. In another environment [Real Madrid], he finds it much
more difficult."
On the other hand, the CEO admitted that Dortmund never wanted to part ways with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Turkey-c3026 international especially after his impressive contribution in the club’s title triumph last term. Sahin collected six goals along with
eight assists, as the Borussians went on win the Bundesliga crown.
However, Watzke expressed his delight after learning of Mario Gotze’s intentions to stay at the Westfalenstadion beyond this season. He mentioned that those days are gone when the players wished to play for Bayern Munich in order
to secure silverware.
It must be noted that the Reds are interested in recruiting Gotze at the end of this season, and were also interested in signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Reus-c23733, who has agreed a move to Jurgen Klopp’s side once the season ends.
"The tendency to go to Bayern Munich has not been around for the past two years. We have seen this through contract extensions, as with that of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mats-Hummels-c24767 [in whom Bayern expressed interest last season],” Watzke concluded.
The reigning German champions are currently second in the league table with 34 points, and will next be in action against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hamburger-SV-c39485 on Sunday, January 22.
