Hans-Joachim Watzke insists Dortmund have cash to spend – Football News
Borussia Dortmund chairman, Hans-Joachim Watzke, has claimed that his side is willing to spend the cash and has hinted on adding two or three more players to the squad this summer.
The former Bundesliga champions had a terrific season last term as they reached the UEFA Champions League final. They lost out to local rivals Bayern Munich but it was still a great achievement for a young side. The Black Yellows have lost Mario Gotze to Bayern already this summer and they are looking to strengthen the squad.
Jurgen Klopp’s side has managed to acquire Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Werder Bremen this summer for an estimated fee of €9.5 million and the side has been linked with a host of players.
Watzke claimed that Dortmund have a huge €50 million to spend on new players this summer and has admitted that the team’s problems can be solved with the acquisition of two or three great players. However, he admitted that the club will need to spend the money wisely to get the best players.
“We are still very ambitious. That means that we have €50m to spend on new players - including Sokratis [Papastathopoulos]. Money can solve things pretty quickly in talks with other clubs. However, we do not only have to be ambitious from a sporting point of view, but have to make intelligent decisions financially, too. That's why things are taking a bit longer this summer,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The chief stated that his side will bring in two or three attacking players in the summer transfer window and stressed that one of the players will be a young talent for the future.
“We will sign two or three attacking players and one of them will be a player for the future. I won't mention any names, though. People shouldn't let rumours on the Internet drive them crazy,” he concluded.
