The Borussia Dortmund CEO has vowed to respond to Bayern Munich on the pitch after their President’s attempts to play mind games.
Hans-Joachim Watzke is confident that no attempts would deter his side from retaining the Bundesliga crown. He was talking in the wake of comments made by Bayern Munich president, Uli Hoeness, who feels that if the Reds are able
to upstage Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion then no one can stop them from winning the title.
These claims have been regarded as ‘psychological nonsense’ from the Dortmund’s CEO who is sure of winning this season’s crown. He assured that the Black Yellows will give their all in the remaining games and urged his players
to maintain their concentration.
Hoeness had previously stated that the Munich giants are on their way up and a win over the Borussians will ensure them this season’s crown. He mused that Bayern have once again started their goal spree which makes them favourite
for an all important tie on April 11.
While talking to a sports publication, Bild, Hoeness further added:
"I am convinced that we will be German champions if we win in Dortmund. The moment of truth comes when we play in Dortmund. So far there has been a war of attrition in which we have made little pinpricks."
On the other hand, Watzke specified that Dortmund do not need to make any claims to win the crown. He insisted that it is the result that matters the most and the Borussians are certainly keeping their grip on things.
The CEO also referred to his team’s 6-1 win away to Koln. He opined that if the reigning German champions continue to be lethal in their remaining games then Bayern would be lucky enough to even come out with a point against them
next month.
"This psychological nonsense is childish. You don't win any games by talking, but you do if you play as we did today [Sunday]," Watzke concluded.
The two teams will also meet in the final of the German Cup on May 12. Dortmund are currently leading the standings with 62 points while Bayern are second with 57.
