Hans-Jorg Butt unfazed with Bayern Munich’s loss to Manchester City - UCL News
Bayern Munich reserve goalkeeper, Hans-Jorg Butt, is unperturbed with the Reds' loss to Manchester City in the Champions League, as they had qualified for the next round prior to that game.
The reserve goalie started the game in place of the first choice keeper, Manuel Neuer, but didn’t do himself any good by letting the Citizens go past him twice. The likes of Philipp Lahm, Mario Gomez and Franck Ribery were also rested for the game, while
midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos and Arjen Robben didn’t travel over fitness issues.
The two teams locked horns on Wednesday, December 7, at Etihad Stadium with the Blues winning by a 2-0 margin. The loss, though, didn’t have any impact on the Reds as they finished atop Group A with 13 points, two points adrift of the fellow qualifiers,
Napoli.
City, as a result, will now compete in the UEFA Europa League alongside their fiercest rivals, Manchester United, who also crashed out of the competition after losing to FC Basel.
Butt told that his team are unfazed with Wednesday’s loss and still are the favourites to make it to the final of the competition, which is to be played at Allianz-Arena on May 19.
Instead, he expressed delight at his manager’s decision to allow most of the reserve players to express themselves in front of a strong City outfit.
The player reserved praise for City and, at the same time, hailed his side’s efforts throughout the competition which allowed them the breathing space before entering the final game.
While talking to Uefa website, the 37-year-old further enthused:
"I think we can live with the result. It is important for these players who do not usually start to have practice at this level. City are a great team, they are first in the English league and it was a very difficult group. We played very well. “
"We've played a very good season until now, we are also in first position in the Bundesliga and have a big dream to play the [Champions League] final in our stadium in Munich in May next year, although it will be a hard journey." Butt concluded.
