Hans Kristian Vittinghus beats Daren Liew in an epic first round battle at Indonesia Open
Denmark’s spirited shuttler Hans Kristian Vittinghus showed his aggression in the court and managed to win a tough battle against Malaysia Daren Liew in Men’s Singles first round at Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012 in Jakarta, on Wednesday, June
13.
Vittinghus, who has been placed at number 16 in Men’s Singles world rankings, had to employ all of his skills to overpower his talented and in-form rival Daren who is currently World Number 31.
The higher ranked Danish shuttler was impressive in the opening set but lost the second one. However, he found a good flow in the final game and stamped his mark over his Malaysian rival in three games.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Daren could not find a good start but he showed a wonderful performance in the second game and levelled the match. Nevertheless, he failed to dictate the pace in the deciding set and lost the battle with a reasonable margin.
The opening game was interesting at the initial stage when both young shuttlers showed their aggression and remained close on the board until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Vittinghus started to play dominating badminton and also created a wonderful gap on the score board. He was fully focused and easily overpowered his rival in the first game with a 21-14 score on the board.
Vittinghus continued his roller-coaster run in the second game and reached at 11-8 until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Vittinghus was leading the game with a comfortable margin of 18-12 when Daren showed his class and played flawless badminton to level the score at 18-18.
Both men progressed closely at this crucial stage and reached at 23-23 when Vittinghus failed to control the pace and lost the game with a 23-25 score on the board.
In the final set, the Danish became aggressive from the start and took a wonderful lead until the break.
The aggressive Vittinghus continued his commanding run in the final set and easily bagged it with an impressive margin of 21-14.
The higher ranked Vittinghus managed to win this three-set battle with a 21-14, 23-25 and 21-14 score on the board.
