Hans Kristian Vittinghus beats Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka in round-of-16 clash at Swiss Open 2013
Denmark’s aggressive player Hans Kristian Vittinghus continued his spectacular run and secured a quarter-final berth after beating Indonesia’s Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka in round-of-16 clash at Swiss Open 2013 in Switzerland on Thursday, March 14.
The impressive Vittinghus, who is the second seed in Men’s Singles main draw of Swiss Open, showed his attacking skills and remained successful in showing exit to the 14th seeded Rumbaka by taking just 34 minutes.
Vittinghus started his run in this pre-quarter-final battle in a dominating manner as he played with remarkable precision and managed to overpower his lower ranked Indonesian challenger in straight sets with a dominating margin of 21-12 and 21-15.
Rumbaka, on the other hand, could not stretch his impressive winning streak as he could not prove his worth against his in-form Danish challenger at any stage in the match and crashed out without impressing the crowd.
It was a tough fight in the initial rallies when Vittinghus showed attacking display of his craft on court. The phenomenal variations in Vittinghus’ shots helped him to maintain his domination against his challenger on court.
The higher ranked Vittinghus did not show any sign of confusion as he remained in complete command of rallies until the one-minute interval when he was miles ahead on the board.
The contest progressed in similar fashion after the one-minute break as Vittinghus did not lose his control over the pace of rallies at any stage and remained in the driving seat.
Vittinghus continued employing his powerful smashes in targeted areas and managed to bag the first set with a comfortable 21-12 total on the scoreboard.
In the following game of this pre-quarter-final battle, the Indonesian shuttler increased his speed to play smart badminton and also remained successful in matching the pace of his challenger but failed to stay consistent towards the end of the opening half.
On the contrary, the powerful smashes and net killings kept Vittinghus in control of the pace of rallies and he remained successful in wrapping up the second game of this contest with a 21-15 score on the board.
In the quarter-final clash, the Danish shuttler will take on the top seed Du Pengyu of China who narrowly won his round-of-16 clash against Chinese Taipei’s Jen Hao Hsu.
