Hans Kristian Vittinghus beats Kai Schaefer in first round of 2012 Bitburger Badminton Open
Denmark’s experienced campaigner Hans Kristian Vittinghus had a great start in Bitburger Badminton Open Grand Prix Gold as he overwhelmed Kai Schaefer in the opening match on October 30, 2012.
This Men’s Singles tussle prolonged to 28 minutes in local badminton arena of Saarbrucken, Germany and both contenders remained head-to-head until the concluding figures of 21-10 and 21-12.
The Danish shuttler played with great precision and silenced the local crowd by registering a phenomenal win.
World Number 17 player Hans Vittinghus, who is also the top seeded shuttler in this event, employed all of his experience and brilliance in the game and moved into the second round.
Meanwhile, Kai Schaefer put a below par performance and crashed out of this Grand Prix Gold tournament.
The opening game set overall tempo of the match as Hans Vittinghus did not give his lower ranked opponent enough time to get settled and pushed him on the back-foot by gathering five consecutive points.
He kept his challenger under control also in the next couple of rallies and strengthened his grip with a notable margin of 8-2. This initial lead helped him to end first half of the set as a leading contender in 11-4 total.
After the mid-game break, Hans did not lose focus and mounted pressure by entering an indomitable figure of 15-6.
This deficit proved a final blow for the German shuttler who surrendered after reading a decisive score of 10-21.
There was not much for Kai Schaefer in the following game as he could not come out of his rival’s influence and knelt down in a disgraceful manner.
The Danish campaigner capitalised his competitor’s blunders and transformed his 1-0 lead into a splendid straight-set victory.
Hans Vittinghus started the beating from the very first stroke and maintained the upper hand until last shot was played.
He gained an early advantage with 5-2 and then doubled the impact by placing 11-6 score on the board.
Later part of the game was also dominated by Hans as he did not commit a single mistake and swept the table with a staggering knock of 21-12.
Now he will be up against Goh Soon Huat of Malaysia in the second round of this tournament.
