Hans Kristian Vittinghus raises Men’s Singles trophy of 2013 Spanish Open - Badminton News
Denmark’s prime male player, Hans Kristian Vittinghus, employed all of his experience and brilliance in the title match of XXVI Spanish Open and claimed the Men’s Singles crown on May, 26, 2013.
He was up against a compatriot shuttler, Joachim Persson, and their meeting prolonged to 40 minutes before ending with concluding figures of 21-9 and 21-16. The local badminton complex of Madrid was filled to
its brim and the spectators gave big round of applause to both finalists.
Though, Hans Vittinghus managed to wrap this showdown in just two games, it was not an easy win for him. The opposing shuttler displayed great fighting spirit in the ending segment of the showdown and made him
sweat hard on the court.
The first set of match started with Hans Vittinghus unleashing a flurry of power-packed strokes and gaining a decent advantage in no time. He made best out of this initial lead and strengthened his grip in next
couple of rallies.
The top seeded Danish player put his challenger under immense pressure by imposing a notable figure of 11 and then doubled the impact by ruling the court in third quarter of the set.
Joachim looked completely off colour in latter part of the game, as he failed to come out of the deficit and lost this crucial game.
On the other hand, Hans Vittinghus showed consistency and swept the table with a significant margin of 21-9. This psychological edge helped him in the following game as he enjoyed an upper hand in the preliminary
stage of that set.
Hans raised his chances of success by claiming many consecutive points in the establishing rallies. However, things got changed just before the interval, as Joachim stormed back into the contest.
Both contenders remained neck-to-neck until the mid-game break and their mesmerising performances kept the audience intact all the way to final moments.
At the half time, both Danish players were standing almost equal in the score position but then Hans Vittinghus struck hard and tipped the scale in his favour. He registered a winning figure of 21-16 and earned
the right to be on top of the victory stand.
