Hans Vittinghus cruises into the second round of Swiss Open – Badminton News
The Danish Men’s singles shuttler Hans- Kristian Vittinghus cruised into the second round by beating Petr Koukal from Czech Republic in his opening match of Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold on March 13, 2012.
The Dane overpowered his rival with decisive score of 21-12, 11-21 and 21-14 to reserve a berth in next round where he will be up against the Thai shuttler Suppanyu Avihingsanon.
The opening match of Hans Vittinghus was full of drama as his performance kept swinging between highs and lows. There were times when he blew away his rival within few minutes and there were also some parts when his opponent swept the board easily.
The battle prolonged to 52 minutes and both contestants displayed their prime craft to register their presence in the arena.
The World Number 17 shuttler Hans Vittinghus started his marathon by snatching the first match point from Petr Koukal. He dominated most part of the first set and outclassed his challenger with score board flashing a final 21-12 score in his favour.
The Danish shuttler pushed his rival in all areas of court and did not spare any loop hole for him. Hans Vittinghus ended the first segment of this show by having 9 points lead on score board.
The Czech shuttler turned the tables in following set and prevented his rival from raising the lead to a decisive 2-0 margin. The 1-1 match score position proved Hans-Kristian’s supporters wrong who were hoping for a straight set victory as he had an upper
hand over Petr Koukal on paper.
The Men’s singles expert Petr Koukal outshined his challenger with a significant margin of 21-11 on the board. His technical and tactical approach was right from the coaching books as many times he beat his opponent’s move even before it was made.
However, the Dane did not disappoint his fans completely and gave them something to cheer immediately after the second set loss.
He stood to his full stature and did not allow his rival to rise from the dust. The Champ registered a concluding score of 21-14 on the board and sealed his 2-1 victory over the Czech shuttler.
Hans Vittinghus secured his spot in second round of Men’s singles event where he will test his skills against Suppanyu Avihingsanon of Thailand.
