Hans Vittinghus takes Denmark into pre quarter-finals in German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012
Denmark’s singles shuttler Hans-Kristian Vittinghus proved his worth in the German Open by taking his country into pre-quarter finals.
The World Number 18 Hans Vittinghus overwhelmed the Singaporean shuttler Zi Liang Derek in a second round match of men’s singles category. He claimed the 2-1 victory with the final score of 21-16, 19-21 and 21-11.
The Danish will now lock horns with Marc Zwiebler of Germany in the pre quarter-finals.
Yesterday, Hans Vittinghus continued his race for glory and pocketed the full benefits of his top form. He outclassed his rival Zi Liang with significant 2-1 match score in a 56-minute tussle.
The Dane had a perfect start and earned a 1-0 lead by winning first set of the match. He hammered his Singaporean opponent with notable margin of 21-16. The Singaporean resisted a bit in the beginning but he lost the grip in the end which cost him a crucial
set point.
The singles contestant Zi Liang of Singapore, who stunned the prime Indian shuttler Parupalli Kashyap in first round, got his lost rhythm and bounced back with a strong reply in second set.
It was neck and neck contest as both players continuously excelled each other on the scorecards but Zi Liang ended this battle by registering decisive score of 21-19 on the board and successfully prevented his rival from raising the lead to 2-0.
The Danish shuttler Hans Vittinghus did not lose his nerves and re-established his grip over match with an authoritative performance. He registered his prime class and the Singaporean shuttler was blown away completely.
Hans seized the 2-1 victory with scoreboard flashing a decisive figure of 21-11 in his favour. This win cemented his spot in third round of the men’s singles event.
The Dane is now scheduled to meet the German shuttler Marc Zwiebler and if he wins he is likely to face the World Number two Chinese ace Lin Dan in the quarter-final.
In the absence of his compatriot World Number four Peter Hoeg Gade the under rated  Hans Vittinghus has good chance to prove his worth and gather some important world ranking points by playing the final rounds of the German Open.
