Hansen no longer poses a threat to Bodemeister in the Preakness Stakes – if he ever did
Bodemeister has a tendency to make news every now and then, whether he wins a race, carve the fastest fractions ever seen in the Kentucky Derby, finishes second in a full Kentucky Derby field, the colt has some potential that is exactly why there is such
a huge following for the Bob Baffert trained pace sensation.
Though, some would think that Bodemeister has the ability to scare away some quality colts, and though fans and racegoers were looking forward to a duel of epic proportions between two highly regarded front-wheelers in the Preakness Stakes – it’s not going
to happen.
It was Trinniberg in the Kentucky Derby, who raced out of his skin to keep up with Bodemeister, actually did well than expected and maybe Bodemeister trying to keep him at bay, made him carve those impressive fractions that he did, however, he will not have
an adversary of that kind in the Preakness Stakes.
Michael Maker was quick to rule, Hansen, out the Preakness Stakes after working under the Twin Spires, when the news broke out that owner Ahmed Zayat has given the nod for the Preakness Stakes.
Yes, it exactly looks how it sounds, Bodemeister has scared away Hansen out of the Preakness – which is good news for Ahmed Zayat and Bob Baffert, because who will do the “Trinniberg” in the Preakness Stakes?
Let’s not jump to conclusions, and hand over Bodemeister the Preakness jewel before it has even run, although this gives Baffert the opportunity to walk a different path – by conserving Bodemeister’s energy in the 1 3/16 mile Preakness, and go for the kill
in the stretch.
If that is the case, than it will be a slow paced Preakness Stakes, and by the way, with all the big names either injured or not able to handle the fatigue of the Kentucky Derby and on top of that going for the Preakness in two weeks time, it does make the
race a little less dangerous.
Whatever the case, it still holds significance for the Triple Crown winner, I’ll Have Another, and his tussle alone with Bodemeister is enough to draw a huge crowd at Pimlico come 19 May, while many will be glued to their tube’s waiting for the rivalry renewed.
