Hansen settles at Churchill Downs for the 5th May spectacle, the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby
The angelic white beauty, Tapit’s three-year-old colt out of mare, Stormy Sunday, arrived at Churchill Downs on 2nd May nearly at noon for the 5th May grandeur that will stand out as a mile stone on his profile.
He has been stationed in Barn 42 for the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands on 5th May at Churchill Downs. The race requires that all the contestants for the race be present on the grounds three days prior to the race.
“We are going to win this race,” the doctor said. “We’re not worried about anybody. We have the best horse. Speed is dangerous, and he can go a mile and a quarter".
“He (trainer Mike Maker) said, why am I scared? I’m a doctor, I’m supposed to have ice in my veins, but this isn’t my job,” Dr. Hansen joked. “If we were in the one-hole we would have had to chase Secretariat after the track record. We don’t have to do that
now, so we’ll play around with these other horses. I was pulling for 14 or 15 from the beginning."
The promise of a surprise by the owners stays intact but they are not willing to reveal it before the race. The request for painting the tail of the three-year-old blue has been turned down for a second time now by the New York regulators.
The 88th running of the Grade 1, $750,000 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes saw the trainer, Dr. Hansen, getting his colt escorted to the track by numerous women dressed in white along with blue tails. Now if he can come up with something so novel, what
does he have in mind for the 5th May Classic, stays beyond imagination.
Under the combined ownership of his breeder, Dr. Kendall Hansen and Skychai Stable, Hansen has been settled at Churchill Downs’ Trackside Training Centre which is located in the vicinity of Louisville, Kentucky.
Hansen enjoys four victories out of the six career starts and even those that got missed were second positions. How does the conditioning for the mega event pays back will become news soon.
