Hapless bowling from Pakistan - Part 1 - Opinion
Pakistan as a T20 outfit is known to produce some match winning bowling spells from an array of top quality bowlers in their attack. Such spells had won games for them from nowhere and it can be safely said, that without such spells, Pakistan tend to look
less than ordinary. One can think of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757
with the ball in the Semi Final, in the very same tournament. The wizardry of Saeed Ajmal is in a league of its own, as his guile and zip has propelled him into the top ranks in T20 cricket. His bag of tricks continues to bamboozle some of the best batsmen
around, where shades of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Hafeez-c76898 are equally dangerous. With the Pakistani batting blowing hot and cold in recent times, the unpredictable nature of the team with a strong
bowling attack, had made them one of the outright favourites of this year’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 of 2012 in Sri Lanka.
Yet much to the disgust of many diehard Pakistani cricket fans, the bowling has been hapless, off color and prone to being hammered into submission by opposition batting line ups, in this tournament so far. It was speculated at the start of the World T20,
that Pakistan, with their three pronged spin attack, and powerful pace battery, were bound to wreak havoc on their oppositions, and progress to the Super Eights with ease. The batting on the other hand was expected to capitulate, especially against top quality
pace bowling from sides such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. To the surprise of many this time around however, Pakistan’s batting has continued to impress everyone, as ridiculous totals had been chased down with utmost ease in a warm up clash and a group fixture. Even when
the side has batted first against New Zealand, a total of considerable substance has been piled up. On the other hand, Pakistan’s bowling has been wayward ever since they arrived in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, where the horrors of being deposited out of the ground from an
array of top quality batsmen have well and truly embraced the Men in Green.
The game against New Zealand on the green top at Pallekele is a noted case. Had it not been for Saeed Ajmal’s guile and zip against the Kiwis, Pakistan could have easily conceded the game after posting 177 with the bat, and bowling poorly in defense of their
total. The bowling up front was impressive however, but New Zealand gave themselves a sniff by gnawing their way back into the game, courtesy lack of consistency from the likes of Umar Gul and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohail-Tanvir-c90665. The death overs, which were bowled by the seamers,
leaked runs at a hemorrhaging rate for New Zealand, where Ross Taylor’s late over onslaught briefly hinted at a miracle for the Kiwis. The fact that attempted yorkers turned into rank full tosses meant that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at
this ground, took full advantage of the hapless bowling and gave the Black Caps a realistic chance of winning the game. Fortunately for Pakistan however, Saeed Ajmal was once again on song, where on a green wicket under lights, he managed to turn the ball
prodigiously and fox most of the batsmen into playing false strokes. In fact it was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 who thwarted the strange sense of inevitability about the result by bowling the last over of the innings and giving away just five runs. The entire team was once
again thankful to him after that nail biting encounter.
