Born on 7th August 1987, Pittsburgh Penguins’ centre, Sidney Crosby turned 25 today. Since he was drafted 1st overall in 2005, Crosby has achieved so much in his time with Penguins, including a Stanley Cup win in 2009 and has won other
awards like Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy, Art Ross trophy and many more.
At the 2006 World Championships of Ice-Hockey, Crosby’s performance was exceptional, even when he was just 18 years old. He became the youngest player to be highest scorer at World Championships, was declared best forward of the championships and also included
in All-Star team by scoring eight goals, eight assists and 16 total points in just nine games.
2005-2006 season, which was his first in the NHL, Halifax, Nova Scotia born player scored more than 100 points in the season as he scored 39 goals, 63 assists for total of 102 points in 81 games. But he could not win trophy of NHL’s best rookie as it went
to Washington Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin.
2006-2007 season was Crosby’s best season in the NHL as he scored his highest points, 120 in that season and topped the league as leading point scorer.
In 2007-2008 season, at the age of 20 he became one of the youngest players in NHL to captain their side. He amazingly made his team reach finals in the very first year of leadership, which was Penguins’ first Stanley Cup final since 1992.
The very next season, just into his second year of captaincy, Crosby became youngest captain in the history of NHL to win the Stanley Cup for his side, when his side defeated Detroit Red Wings by going to the wire in seven games. His contribution was very
important as he scored +100 points for one more time and ended the season with 103 points in 70 games and added 31 points in 24 playoff games.
The 5-foot-11, 200 pounder helped his international side, Team Canada to win the Gold Medal at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games by scoring seven points in the seven games, which included four goals and three assists.
Last seasons, he could not play many games because of the concussions that he suffered. He could play just 41 games in the 2010-2011 season and 22 games in the 2011-2012 season. But still he was offered a 12 year massive contract for $104.4 million, which
he signed on 28th June 2012. It will keep him in Pittsburgh Penguins organisation until 2025.
