I have seen these interesting plants in Garden Centres, with multiple plants in one tub. I am curious if these plants can be cut into sections and just stuck in the soil and they grow from there? Apparently they can be grown in water containers with pebbles around them. I have several of these specimens in my garden left in pots from the previous owner and they are now tall and gangley. I'd like to try this, but unsure if will work.

  1. They are very easy to strike from cuttings, So much so that they can become a weed if you let them grow unattended.

  2. They grow very well from cuttings. I don't know about a weed but they can get to be a fairly decent sized tree if you live in a frost free area. By the way, they are also called Malabar Chestnut, great flower and the seeds are edible. The link below is through Purdue University and links through to the California Rare Fruit Growers.
