  3. A counterpoint to Saigonese answer...

The day you're thinking is April 30th, which is the fall of Saigon and Vietnam Liberation Day. This is a different holiday.

Many of my Viet family had been through horrific lives after the fall of Saigon. Two uncles who were officers in ARVN were imprisoned for years. One was beaten so badly that he has permanent brain damage. The other had all his arms and legs broken as well as his eye ripped out of his head. Both have better reason not to ever visit their home country again, yet they now visit Vietnam regularly.

In other words, the War ended over 30 yers ago. Many Viets have already moved on, and the rest should stop trying to pick a fight that ended over 30 years ago.

Most of the Vietnamese were born after the War, and are of the friendliest people that I've meet in my life. All they care about is a happy life with lots of friends and family. Most couldn't care less about whether their government is communist or democratic. The only political thing they care about is simple being Vietnamese.

The Viet Kieu should respect that, and not try to force democracy down thei throats of the native Viets. In some ways, Vietnam has more freedoms that we do here in America. In many ways, the native Viets are happier and more respectful than us American Viets.

Happy Ngay Quoc Khanh Viet Nam

  4. DITTO!

  5. i'm a vietnamese some people do independance day and some dont

  6. I don't mean to rain on your parade, but, not all Vietnamese celebrating this day, especially those who are living abroad.

After 1975, a number of them suffered in the "re-education camps" (trai cai tao), some lost their families, their homes, forced to re-locate to do hard-labor in the so-called "new economic zone" (vung kinh te moi). Many others lost their lives in the deep Pacific ocean, in the gulf of Thailand, or in the jungles of Cambodia, escaping the current Vietnamese communist regime.

I bet you that millions of Vietnamese who presently live overseas would find your "Question (?!?!)" rather insulting & insensitive.

Thought  you should know, to us Vietnamese here in the US & other freedom loving countries, our dear national flag still comes in 3 red stripes on the yellow background.

I always long for a day when freedom & democracy will be truly celebrated by all Vietnamese.
