Happy and sad men from the Korean Grand Prix… (Part 2)
Alonso started off the race from third place on the podium and continued racing at the same for sometime until fortune hit him for the first time. Red Bull’s Mark Webber crashed out of the race after slipping on the track handing the second place to the
driver.
Later, because of a poor pit stop he lost this second slot in the race to Lewis Hamilton of McLaren, the old teammate and one of the worst rivals of the Spaniard. This time the fairy-god mother came with a magic wand once again, as the second place was given
back to him immediately as the British driver sided and went off wide giving his space to move ahead.
Then the last spell of the day worked for the Ferrari driver the way nobody had thought it would. This time the leader of the cars’ rally, Sebastian Vettel who was moving at the fore-front right from the start of the race, and was certainly going to bag
victory, suddenly stopped. Alonso passed by him and then Hamilton over took him. The surprised and shocked Red Bull team who was seeing it all happen from the paddock and was later informed by the driver that the engine blew up. Unbelievable but that was true.
Alonso’s stars were as bright as they could have been as he smoothly drove to see the chequered flag.
At the last race in Japan it was Hamilton who started believing on bad luck as he kept meeting mishaps one after the other. This week Alonso would surely start believing in good luck as he was severed the victory on a silver platter by luck.
The ol’ good Champ
After a long wait the fans of the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher were able to see the glimpse of the old racer once again on the track. After a poor 2010 season the racer is finally back in form.
The last week in Japan saw him finish at 6th place and now he ended at fourth, his best finish of the season. Though everybody already knows that had it been a few years back, the driver would have easily made it to the top of the podium and once again
proving his heroism on wet tracks. Yet, the fourth place finish by the racer was also embraced by the fans equally.
This finish has not only remained the viewers of the old glory of the racer it has also made people believe once again that the German still holds the magic and could do wonders on the track. Of course, after a long tough year this finish must have revitalised
Schumacher for the upcoming year. So far he is adamant to be seen in the upcoming season despite of the harsh criticism that he had to face all through the season owing to his poor return on the track.
The sad organisers turned happy
Well! No lies and no denying, the track was not a perfect one. There were problems faced by the entire FIA crew right from the start if the race. Apart from the drivers, nobody had good staying arrangements. Pit rules had to be changed to keep the drivers’
life out of danger. The newly-laid asphalt layer made it very slippery, and then the strangest part, the track had a lot of dust and powder on it.
However, the truth is that the drivers and the teams as well the organisers and the race followers, all were actually prepared for the worse. Even the Korean race organisers were also not expecting things to go on smoothly.
Yet, the day ended nicely. The crowd was happy and cheerful. The drivers praised the track and the Television viewers enjoyed the event. Thumbs up to the race organisers, as FIA expects to see a flawless event next season.
To be continued…
