Happy and sad men from the Korean Grand Prix… (Part 4)
Jenson Button:
There had been many losers in the last Grand Prix but the worst of all losses was faced by the McLaren driver, Jenson Button. The title defender ended the Korean Grand Prix at 12th place, without gaining any points.
This means the struggle of the entire season finally came to an end by the driver. Prior to the race, Button stood only at fifth place in the Drivers’ Championship and this race was his last hope to bounce back in the championship.
Moreover, the poor finishes of both the Red Bull drivers, who were standing at 1st and 3rd places prior to this race, was a great opportunity for the driver to bounce back in the contention with full force. While this chance was brilliantly
availed by his teammate Lewis Hamilton, Button completely missed, which left the driver 42 points’ adrift the charts’ topper.
As he returned disappointed from the track, the British driver proclaimed, "I can't do anything except laugh."
However, with two days gone the driver declared that mathematically he can still win. However, rationally speaking he cannot win even ‘mathematically’; the only way he can win is if he performs miraculously well.
Many of the McLaren fans as well as analysts believe that he should now support and assist his teammate, in bagging the second victory of his career.
However, as per his early comments he refused to support his teammate in the remaining two races, saying that he will continue fighting his own battle till the very last race in Abu Dhabi. Moreover, he was assured that his team
will not ask him to act as a No. 2 racer.
Well, let’s wait and watch what the team decides now.
Adrian Sutil:
This season has seen Sutil as a whole new driver. Despite having an old reputation of being a wild man who can go crazy at times, he has now learned a tamer way of racing.
The driver has learnt a clever trick, that is by securing a decent place in the qualifying and sticking to it all through the race in order to bag some good points for the team. This has served well for the driver many times all
through the season.
But then there are bad days when such formulae do not work as good as they should. Last weekend, at the Korean International Circuit was one such poor day for the driver when he gave a quick flashback reminder of the old racer
in him. While making a poor attempt to overtake Kamui Kobayashi, on the slipperiest track of the calendar, under the pouring sky and above all with a bad car that already had inefficient brakes, Sutil could not have made a worse mistake.
As the race ended, the driver admitted it had not been his finest driving shows, but by then it was too late.
Moreover, the stewards also fined him $10,000 and handed a five-place grid penalty for the next round of the season in Brazil.
Nico Rosberg:
Another ill-fated man seen on the track in the last race was Rosberg. The Mercedes GP driver had been doing very well all through the season and has become one of the biggest envies of his teammate Michael Schumacher.
The driver did pretty well in the practice session prior to the Korean Grand prix and was able to get hold of 5th position on the grid. The race day also began pretty well for him as he cautiously drifted through the
tough and slippery track. However, as he reached the 18th lap he had a hard blow of ill-fate. The Red Bull driver and charts’ leader Mark Webber slipped off the track, went too wide off it, and during his stunt he took the German along with him
as well, ending the day for both of them.
