Harassment by Child Support Services?

OKay, my Stepson died in May. He had a five year old son, for which he was paying support. He used OUR address as his mailing address . . .NOW, my husband and I keep getting letters and phone calls from the Sacromento County Child Support department, demanding payments.

We have explained that Josh passed away (over the phone and in writting) but they refuse to leave us alone. They keep saying "they must have the death certificate": well duh, all the case worker need to do is get off her @ss and fax the corener of the county WE live in to get it.(where Josh died. Josh's son recieved his SS death benefit and THEY KNOW IT.

For your piece of mind just get a copy and send it to them. It may not be your resposability but is it really worth the headache at this time in your life?

Well if your really that tired of it, then just do it yourself. Sure the lady isnt really doing her job but oh well. Just send the certificate yourself and be done with it. This isnt a battle of wills here. Your son just died. Give them what they want and be done with them so you can move on.

Call the offending DCSS (department of child support services) office and ask to speak with the "omni-buds" person (not sure if I spelled it correctly). This person is the one who deals with problems, their job is to research into things! They will look into it and should take the necessary steps to correct the issue. If not you will get a letter in the mail and it directs you to the next level. This will be the easiest way to deal with it unless you want to contact you attorney.

Im sure this problem is making the grieving process even harder for your husband. Government agencies sure can be heartless. But to shut them up, send them the copy of the death certificate and end this. If you husband doesnt have it, call over to the coroners office yourself. In fact, if they will allow it, YOU take care of this for your husband, so he wont have to look at that document again. That would be a wonderful help to him.

GET A COPY OF THE DEATH CERTIFICATE YOUR SELF AND SEND IT.  DUH
