Harbhajan Singh critical of Wankhede wicket – Cricket News Update
The Mumbai Indians skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harbhajan-Singh-c61453, on Sunday criticised the Wankhede Stadium pitch used for their IPL match against Deccan Chargers, saying it was not a proper T20 track.
Though the Mumbai Indians won the match by five wickets, Bhajji did not look satisfied with the way the Wankhede wicket behaved, as batsmen of both the sides struggled to score runs.
"A different wicket from what we have played at the Wankhede. Not good for T20 cricket,” said Harbhajan Singh at the post match press conference. “I came today and saw the pitch and said wow what to expect here, we never know what
to expect from this track ever," he added further.
After putting the Deccan Chargers into bat, Lasith Malinga-led Mumbai Indian attack bundled the tourists out for a paltry 100 in 18.4 overs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JP-Duminy-c1742 returned unbeaten
at 25 off 24. Seven of the visiting batsmen fell for single digit scores.
Malinga claimed impressive figures of 4 for 16 in his spell of 3.4 overs. Harbhajan Singh and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MM-Patel-c1987 claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Mumbai lost explosive http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RG-Sharma-c2309
steadied things for the hosts with a 31-run stand for the second-wicket, but wickets kept clattering as the home side lost five while chasing a meager 101-run target.
The bowling friendly nature of wicket irked the home skipper. "From next time, I think we have to ensure that we know what kind of wicket we are going to play," said the turbanator after the match.
Asked about his side's performance, the Mumbai Indians' skipper said their batting was no different than Chargers’.
"We did not play any better than Deccan, both teams batted poorly. Of course, our bowlers did a superb job. Rohit batted well and Ambatu Rayudu was there to take us home."
The five-wicket win catapulted Mumbai Indians to the third spot on the points table. Harbhajan’s men will next play Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 on May 3, 2012.
