Harbhajan Singh, the Mumbai Indians' skipper, is devastated with his team’s performance in a crunch match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday and believes that his team needs to get their act together if they have any chance
of clinching the title.
Mumbai won the toss and elected to bowl first last night. Kolkata struggled throughout the innings but posted a competitive total of 140 runs on the board. Cricket analysts were expecting Mumbai to chase down the mediocre total comprehensively
but against all odds, the home team succumbed under pressure and lost the match by 32 runs.
As a result of that, the Knight Riders have qualified for the play-off stage of the tournament and have jumped up to number two on the points table behind http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils.
Mumbai will play its last league match of the fifth season on May 20th against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals and will have to win it in order to make it to the last four of the event.
Harbhajan has slammed the performance of his top-order batsman and feels that the openers could not make use of the first six overs, which are always crucial in T20 cricket. The discarded off-spinner strongly believes that his team
will have to raise their performance in order to keep their hopes alive in the tournament.
Like a true leader, ‘Bhajji’ admitted that his own performance has been below-power in the fifth season of the glamorous league.
He said, “I don't think there was much fault in the wicket. I think we need to sort out our technique. We need to bat well in the first six overs. We played bad cricket today. The first six overs decided our fate. We haven't been
playing good cricket. We have done well only in patches. We need to pick up our game, me as well.”
On the other side of the coin, Gambhir is happy to have beaten http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 in this crucial encounter and now he can breathe easy till the elimination stage.
“If we win the next one we'll be in the top two. If we had lost this we would have been under pressure. Today's win will give us confidence," said Gambhir.
