Harbhajan Singh’s Mother steps into controversial battle against M.S Dhoni and Vijay Mallya - Cricket News Update
Alongside her son, Harbhajan Singh, the cricketer’s mother has also dragged herself into the clamour of condemnation against the Indian Captain, M.S Dhoni, for upsetting her son through featuring in a liquor advertisement mocking the 31-year-old.
In London, ahead of Lord’s test, where the Men in blue are all set to lock-horns against the hosts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harbhajan-Singh-c61453, might not be happy about the whisky advertisement
that eventually turned out to be a predicament for both of them.
The controversy kicked off when India’s highest paid cricketer, Dhoni, became the part of cut-throat rivalry between two of the leading whisky brands of India, McDowell’s No 1 and Royal Stag Mega Cricket.
The World Cup winning captain of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 endorses the McDowell’s No 1, the number 1 selling brand from the UB Group in collaboration with club soda. The advertisement, identified as the root-cause of the recent controversy, is based upon a spoof in which,
the 30-year-old, promotes his brand while making fun of the advertisement that previously featured Harbhajan, endorsing the tag line of Royal Stag, co-branded with cricket gear.
The tag line which glorified the Royal Stag’s brand was, “it’s your life make it large”; however, the advertising spoof that came out from United Distillers, targeted a look-alike of Harbhajan, who gets mocked for not understanding the purpose of job assigned
to him. So at the end Dhoni recommends the look alike “If you want to achieve something in life, forget large. Do something different."
This resulted in an infuriated Harbhajan, alongside his mother Avatar Kaur, who lately held the advertisement responsible for personally hitting out at her son and husband.
She further deemed that the spoof is also a taunt at the “Sikh community” in general, which might have hurt their sentiments.
Kaur further demanded a handsome amount of £1,400 from UB for causing mental distress to her family, followed by an immediate cease of the TV commercial currently being broadcasted all across the country.
On the other hand, owner of the UB Company and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Vijay Mallya, doesn’t seem too worried about Harbhajan’s intimidation as he responded in a calm fashion.
Mallya, also known as the liquor King of India, said “It [the ad] was not meant to attack Harbhajan Singh personally; It was just a spoof between two brands. There are several TV programmes that spoof our politicians. What will happen if all of them start
sending legal notices?"
