Harbour Watch up for the 2000 Guineas 2012 after the Glorious Goodwood success in July this season
Harbour Watch, the two-year-old  Acclamation and Gorband’s colt is under charge Richard Hannon, who has made his mark soon after just three performances. His deliverance at these three races that has made him achieve a hat trick at such a tender age has
also convinced the connections to consider him as a deserving and valid candidate for the next year’s 2000 Guineas.
The 2000 Guineas Stakes is a Group 1 flat horse race in Great Britain that is for the participation of thoroughbred colts and fillies that are three-year-old. The race is held on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket for a distance of a mile.
The race is significant because it is one of the Britain’s five Classic races which is followed by the Derby and then also the St Leger. The winning of the Guineas is the first prerequisite for the Triple Crown but the three victories have not been able
to be claimed in recent decades.
This season’s 2000 Guineas were won by Sir Henry Cecil trained Frankel who was being ridden by Tom Queally. The last 2000 Guineas that Richard Hannon won was in the year 1990 with Tirol and jockey Michael Kinane.
Richard Hughes was the one who rode Harbour Watch to his very first victory while also breaking his maiden at Salisbury on 12th June this season. There were seven others contesting for breaking their maiden.
The next opportunity that came Harbour Watch’s way on 7th July was the race at Newmarket that he won against Ed Dunlop’s Burwaaz who was being ridden by Richard Hills. The third one who finished after the runner up was Hadaj trained by Clive Brittain
and had Philip Robinson onboard.
Harbour Watch’s third straight win that made him reach a hat trick was at the Glorious Goodwood on 29th July. This was a Group 2 race with ten participants on the field. The second position in the race was secured by Bannock who is being trained
by Mark Johnston and also contested for the Racing Post Trophy this season.
The runner up was onboard Silvestre De Sousa. Riding in right behind him was Robert Winston onboard Alan McCabe trained, Casper Netscher.
The reason that Harbour Watch had to discontinue for the remainder of the season owed to a leg injury that he carried right after the race at the Glorious Goodwood.
David Redvers told At The Races: "We've just got to hope that he makes a full recovery, but it's going to be tight to get him to the Guineas. We've got to hope that he comes back bang on song and, if he does, he's the horse they'll all be fearing next year”.
Harbour Watch’s next target has already been defined and set aside for him by his connections. Whether the fourth attempt will result in a victory or not is still to be seen.
