Hard Drive Question. I have a Hewlett Packard pavilion XE783 running ME. It will not turn on

I have a Hewlett Packard pavilion XE783 running ME. It will not turn on something fried when I tried to turn it on. I also have a Dell Dimension 4700 running XP. how do I get the data from the HP hard drive to the Dell hard drive? What is your opinion on taking the hard drive out of the HP and putting it in the Dell?
