I took the hard drive from my brother's broken Compaq Presario F500 and I formatted it on my laptop. There are 2 local disks. 1 that is 86.6 gigs and 1 that is 6.53 gigs. Is there some way I can merge them together or delete the 6.53 gig one?

  1. Yes, you can. What you did (disk formatting) was not enough. You have to re-create the disk partition (disk partitioning), so that you will end up with just a single disk partition that occupies the whole disk(instead of 2 partitions that splits up the total disk capacity).

There are a lot of software that can do this. They are called disk partitioning software or hard drive managers. Partition Magic is one such software. Acronis and Paragon have similar products.

You can Google search by typing "disk partitioning software".

  2. It sounds like You have two partitions.  1 that is 86.6 and one that is 6.53.  Delete all partitions and create a single one that is 93 gb.  You can do this in Control Panels, Administrator tools, Computer Management. Under Storage open Disk Management.  Right click on each of the partitions and select delete. when both are gone, right click and create a partition of the maximum size then format.

  3. Yes, its called Mirroring Hardrives, but you would have to buy a RAID Controller (about $30, that your hard drives plug into) to Configure those drives together.

My Real opinion....don't even waste your time, you can buy a new 320Gig  Hard drive from Office Depot, Best Buy or Circuit City for $115.  Hard drives are very inexpensive

  4. yes you can there is a program called partition magic that you can use to combine those two partitions into one also you can do it using advanced administrative tools in your cotrol panel. go to disk management.
