I had a crippling virus on my computer (Vista HomePremium/OS) that wouldn't allow me to start in safe mode, to boot up or even boot up from a disk. I took out my samsung(sp2504c) hard drive and replaced it with a seagate(barracuda 7200.11), reinstalled the operating system and started from scratch. 1. However, I'd still like to use the original samsung hd as my primary(because all my files and stuff are still on it) and use the seagate as the secondary but I'm afraid that I'll reinfect my computer again before I can scan the samsung with virus software; Also, I really don't know how to configure the jumper pins in order to accomplish this. How can I do this on my own-The manufacturers web site didn't help. (I'm also open to using the seagate as my primary hard drive- just as long as I can somehow transfer all of my files off a virus free samsung, onto it). 2. I'd also like to know if I "should" have formatted the new seagate with 2 partitons ( one with only my OS on it) so as to be able to boot up if this problem ever arose again? 3. By the way-just as an aside-(just curious) If I am able to rid the original samsung hd of this virus, is there any way to transfer the data from one hd to the other? If so, must the data be transferred as a mirror copy with even the same number of partitions on each hard drive? Or can you direct the transferred data to different areas on a differently partioned hard drive? Questions #1 and #2 are really important to me and any help you can lend toward understanding and resolving this problem would be very appreciated. I'd be very grateful. Thank You. RT
