Question:

Hard drive being eaten by Vista??

I just got a desktop a few weeks ago that has 6 GB of Ram, a 750 GB hard drive, and is running Vista 64

My question is, I seem to be missing alot of space on my hard drive that is unaccounted for, and slowly seems to be disappearing. My total free for the hard drive initially is 687 GB. I have roughly 80 or so GB of data, whatever on there, and this is including system software. I was guessing this would leave me with about 607 GB free. The problem is, I'm only showing 524 GB free, and it seems to be dropping as time goes by. Any possible causes for this?

  1. I have the same problem. My laptop has a 320 GB hard drive and the amount of space available fluctuates anywhere from 10-15 GBs per day.

  2. The likely cause is that Vista backs up all of your data into a roll-back feature.

This takes up a huge amount of space on your drive but does allow you to recover deleted files and recover them back to a previous version.

Google it to learn more, and also check out:

  3. Go back to XP, It uses less hard drive space
