You know, FAT 32's hard drive every single file could not be more than 4 G, so after I copied a big file which maybe more than 4G onto this hard drive, the hard drive does not show up via USB, but connecting to desktop as second hard drive, it could be recognized, but could not be accessed, it just asked me this hard drive unformatted, do you want to format it? Oh, my Gosh, do you wan to erase my 10 years of data on it? So please computer guys or superman give me solutions , thank you so much in advance.

NOTE:This is a Lacie 300938u, 250 G, mini, d2 Ethernet hard drive, I think it is the same story with external hard drive regarding trouble-shooting.

  1. Unfortunately, I do not have any solution for you on getting your computer to be able to access the hard drive you uploaded that large file to... but I would like to make a suggestion for the time after you get it figured out...

Get a good backup system, such as an External Hard Drive (I have one I bought earlier this year... a 350 GB USB external hard drive for $100.  I have used it many times to backup my system, and used it many times to restor my system!

Or you can get a Zip drive, or get a CD RW, or a DVD RW, or a CD/DVD RW, or a Flash drive... there are many options out there, and they are fairly inexpensive... a very good investment to save that 10 years of data.

Also, when you get the problem solved, and reformat your hard drive, see if you can format it in the better NTFS instead of FAT32 =)
