  1. Because there are a certain percent of intelligent people.   To be a skilled worker, require some intelligents.    As a counry advances, it requires a higher percent of skilled workers.   The unskilled work are dumped on the developing nations.

  2. Because they are not paid adequetly.

  3. public education

  4. Government schools!

  5. There is a myth that makes that claim.  The fact is that there is a shortage of cheap foreign scab labor that can be exploited by big business.  Why pay a decent wage for a graduate from a North American University when you can get a graduate from the Calcutta Institute of Technology (CAL TECH) for 30% of the market salary?

  6. Very Sound Economic Conditions.

  7. Because we lower the passing grades, and wonder why 17 other countries graduate more scientist then we do. The I.Q. of the U.S. slips another couple of notches,.. but it makes the schools look good and everyone is happy.  They dont want citizens capable of critical thinking... its against their interest. They just want people just smart enough to run the machines, and do the paperwork, but to remain just willfully ingnorant enough to except the crappier jobs, the longer hours, and the end of overtime.  The owners of this country know the secret .. its called the American Dream.. but you have to be asleep to believe it..

  8. People are not trained in high school to be skilled workers.

  9. I think there are a lot of skilled workers--but companies would rather insource cheaper skilled workers from third-world countries so they use the shortage an excuse.  Many nurses and software workers have lost their jobs to cheaper foreign labor.  But I think that some dumbing down has occurred too--for example, kids are being exposed to more mercury than ever because Bush I increased the number of childhood vaccinations required in the late 80s.  It's even higher today.  There are more ADD and autistic kids than ever as a result and mercury is said to lower IQ.
